Saints Girls Take Jazz to the Next Level
A huge congratulations to Enchanté and Stage Band who have yet again achieved outstanding results at Generations in Jazz.
Enchanté competed in the most advanced and hotly contested Division 1 Large Choir section. Few schools enter this advanced category due to the difficulty level of the set piece, and the expectation of highly advanced jazz skills. Enchanté achieved a truly outstanding 99% for the highly challenging set piece and 99% for their own choice.
Placing 2nd overall was a fantastic achievement for the youngest Enchanté group that has ever competed in this division, with many of our students in Years 8 and 9. This is a huge testament to the speed with which these students had to upskill! A huge shout out to our 13 year old Willow Chong, who, due to the illness of her off-sider, was required to hold down the bass line all by herself in a piece sung in 11 parts!
Stage Band were beyond excited to achieve their first win at GIJ, placing 1st in Division 3.1. Further to this, Year 12 percussionist Charlotte Lorenzen, and Year 11 lead trumpeter Maddie Battye, were awarded positions in the Division 3 Superband, recognising their music excellence from a field of approximately 50 bands. This win will see the Stage Band move up a level to compete in Division 2 next year. With many younger students in this group as well, we can’t wait to see where this group is headed in the future.
As an extra surprise, Sari Noble, our Director of Choirs, was presented with a Vocal Directors Award for Outstanding Contribution to Vocal Jazz Education.
A special thank you to trumpet teacher Warren Heading who played a large part in assisting the Stage Band to their win.

Strengthening Connections across Years 7 and 12
Last week, the Year 7 and Year 12 cohorts participated in a buddying workshop designed to strengthen connections between the youngest and oldest members of the Senior School. The girls engaged in a range of partner and group activities, allowing them to collaborate with students from the other year level. Toward the end of the session, each student had the opportunity to share her experiences—either as a Year 7 or a Year 12—with a buddy from the alternate year group. The Year 7s showed great courage in speaking openly about the joys and challenges of starting Senior School, while the Year 12s demonstrated compassion and empathy as they listened and offered thoughtful support. We look forward to future sessions between the year levels as we continue to foster meaningful connections within the Saints Girls community.
