Wellbeing Can Enhance Discovery
Our strong focus on sense of belonging last term created connections, relationships and familiarity within the ELC. As we embark on a new term, our children have entered their spaces with confidence, enthusiasm and a positive approach to learning. We have curated our classrooms to inspire and ignite the children’s thinking, curiosities and wonderings. We will begin the term carefully observing the children’s interactions, collecting data to embark on meaningful research based upon children’s observations and interests.
We have begun by reading stories familiar to the children including ‘Tap the Magic Tree’ and ‘I Went Walking.’ We are using these as a vehicle to spark new vocabulary, imagination, empathy and to consider why things happen. As educators, we are curious to explore how storytelling can support a sense of wellbeing across all areas of our curriculum both verbal and non-verbal. Very excitingly, we are thoroughly enjoying storytelling through drama, playing alongside the children with dress-ups and connecting to many different stories.
We plan and have already started regular visits to Ferguson Park to connect and share stories on the Kaurna Yarta (Country). We will share stories about our First Nations people, sparking imaginations and curiosities about how the land looked before shops, schools, roads, cars, buses etc., and how it provided them with everything they needed to thrive on Country. We will document children’s noticings and thinking using the language of photography. Then together, we will create our own narratives, using all of our senses about when we went walking.
The Atelier will be a place of inspiration, wellbeing and mindfulness, where the children will be introduced to the language of clay. Clay offers a multi-faceted approach to development, promoting both physical and emotional wellbeing. It’s a versatile material that encourages creativity, fine motor development and sensory exploration, with the Atelier offering the perfect backdrop for this to evolve.

Celebrate our Learning

In Week 3, families and treasured friends are invited to spend some time looking through their child’s Portfolio during drop-off or pick-up.
At the ELC, we celebrate and document each child’s learning journey. The portfolio is a celebration of your child’s achievement, linking to curriculum frameworks and providing meaningful assessment for educators, families and the individual child.
Work samples, photographs, transcripts of conversations and reflections provide a rich insight into learning and involvement in our inquiry investigations.
We look forward to seeing you at the ELC, enjoying this special time with your child and celebrating their progress.
