ELC Mothers and Treasured Friends’ Afternoon Tea

Last Friday, the ELC was filled with joy, laughter, and special moments as we welcomed families to our Mothers and Treasured Friends’ Afternoon Tea. This was a beautiful opportunity for our community to come together to honour the significant people in our children’s lives. It was a joyful and meaningful acknowledgement of the deep connections and daily acts of love that influence children’s growth and development.

In early childhood, relationships are at the heart of learning. Every interaction, whether it’s a morning hug, a shared smile, or a quiet moment of encouragement contributes to a child’s sense of identity and wellbeing. These moments, though often small, are profoundly significant. They create a secure foundation that supports children’s confidence, creativity, and ability to engage with the world around them.

Our ELC children were bursting with excitement as they proudly welcomed their special guests into the learning environment. It was heartwarming to witness the children guiding their visitors through the spaces they know so well. The children introduced the visitors to educators with whom they have formed strong bonds with and shared the rich learning that they have been engaging in.

Guests enjoyed a delicious afternoon tea and were invited to participate in a range of meaningful shared experiences. Children created personalised cards, painted portraits of their visitors, and designed their own beautiful native flower posies. These experiences encouraged creativity, self-expression, and connection.

The afternoon was filled with warmth, joy, and genuine celebration. It was a powerful reminder of the importance of community and the deep value of the relationships that surround our children.

Thank you to Lauren Taverna and her family for generously supplying the stunning native flowers used to create the children’s posies. Your contribution added a beautiful and personal touch to the day.

News from Learning Community 2

Introducing the experience of hatching chicks in the ELC has provided the children with a rich, hands-on opportunity to support Outcome 4 of the Early Years Learning Framework: Children are confident and involved learners.

This experience encourages curiosity, inquiry, and active exploration as children engage with real-life biological processes.

Observing the hatching of chicks stimulates children’s natural sense of wonder and leads to meaningful questions, predictions, and discussions. It fosters critical thinking and deepens their understanding of concepts such as life cycles, growth, and change.

As the children participate in caring for the chicks—feeding them, observing their behavior, and documenting their development—they are actively engaged in investigation and problem-solving.

This type of experiential learning promotes persistence and resourcefulness. Children are encouraged to ask questions, seek answers, and make connections between what they observe and their existing knowledge. The shared responsibilities involved in chick care also offer opportunities to collaborate, take initiative, and reflect on their learning, further building confidence and independence.

ELC Reconciliation Week Gathering

ELC families are invited to join us during National Reconciliation Week for a special event at Ferguson Conservation Park on Tuesday 27 May at 9.45am, as we come together to celebrate this important occasion. We hope to see you there!

Erindale Teaching and Learning Evening

Please join us on Tuesday 10 June at 6.30pm for the Erindale Teaching and Learning Evening at the ELC.

To support your child’s transition into our Erindale room in Semester 2, we will be holding an information session. This is an opportunity for you to meet Mrs Laura Doval Cifre, the Erindale teacher, as well as some of our Learning Community 2 staff.

During this session, you will visit the learning environment that your child will be transitioning into and gain insights into the daily rituals.

Laura will share how you child’s growing independence and development is nurtured and the rich opportunities for learning that are offered. We look forward to working in partnership with you to support your child to thrive and reach their full potential.

As this is a formal presentation, we recommend parents/guardians only attend this event.
