Aerobics State Championships

On Saturday 14 June, our aerobics teams competed in the FISAF State competition held at Walford Anglican Girls School. Since the first competition, all teams have been working extremely hard to perfect their routines. We have three teams invited to attend the National Championship on the Gold Coast! In addition to that, we are currently still waiting to see if our other teams will receive a wildcard, which will be announced on July 3.

In the Secondary pre-choreographed Year 7 phase 1 section, the Royals placed third, meaning they were invited to their first ever Nationals! Diva Fever also placed third in the Secondary pre-choreographed Year 7 to 12 phase 2 category, meaning they are also invited to Nationals. In this same section, we had Fly girls come fourth, however it was very close! We are keen to see if the girls receive a wildcard due to the close scores; however, we are proud of their efforts either way. Finally, Rythm came first in the Secondary fitness team category, so we were immediately invited to attend Nationals! Each section faced strong competition, making this a remarkable achievement for everyone involved.

This year nationals will be held in the Gold Coast in Queensland from 26 to 31 August. This is such an amazing opportunity for the girls to compete against other states from around Australia. Although the competition will be fierce, I know the girls will be competitive, and I am excited to help develop their routines in preparation for this competition.

Although not all Saints teams were invited to nationals, we are still exceptionally proud of their hard work and effort over the past few terms. We would love to see everyone return to the sport next season as we have some awesome ideas waiting!

We are so proud of all the girls’ effort and commitment throughout this season, and we couldn’t be happier with the improvement in every team this year.

Cross Country State Championships

On Thursday 5 June, Saints Girls attended the annual SSSA cross country championships held at the Oakbank racecourse. This race is commonly known amongst the running community to be a challenging race requiring GRIT and determination. It was great to see a variety of girls participating in this event and giving the race everything they had while representing the School with courage. Despite the cold and windy weather, each girl braved the conditions and raced to the best of their ability against a large number of girls in their age group, with certain age groups having hundreds of girls competing. Therefore, it was an incredible achievement to place in the top three in the state. A special congratulations to Amelia Sheridan for placing first in the 14 year old girls age group, running 3km in 10 minutes and 7 seconds. Additionally, congratulations to both Isla Fahey and India Goodall, who came first and second, respectively, in the 16 year old girls age group. Both girls ran 4km, with Isla running it in 15 minutes and India following with a time of 15 minutes and 14 seconds. It was an incredible achievement for all three girls, and everyone who competed should be incredibly proud of themselves.

Cross Country Captain

Congratulations Aleesha Gray

Congratulations to Aleesha Gray who has been selected to represent Football South Australia at the Emerging Matildas Championship in Sydney at Valentine Sports Park from 15-20 July. This tournament gives Aleesha the chance to be selected in the NZ National Team and the Junior Matildas. Well done Aleesha, we will be cheering for you!

Congratulations Senior A Hockey Team

Congratulations to our Senior A Hockey team, who have been crowned back-to-back School Sport SA Statewide Champions! In tough conditions, the girls overcame Grant High School in the first match, winning 4-1. In the Grand Final, the girls cranked it up a notch, displaying impressive skill and hockey IQ to defeat Henley High School. Winnie Vartuli and Matilda Paterson were strong in both matches. Year 8 students Emily Robinson and Antra Docherty, who were four years younger than some of their teammates, proved invaluable, with Antra scoring a notable goal in the Grand Final.

Congratulations to Old Scholar and coach Poppie Goldsmith (Kennion 2021) on achieving the ultimate success for the second year running. The team now sets their sights on chasing an illustrious three-peat next year.

Years 3 to 6 Junior School Co-urricular Sport

Congratulations to all students and coaches on another excellent Term of sport. Participation was high across all programs, with 160 students achieving a 100% attendance rate! Shout out to our Year 3 Netta team, coached by Year 12 students Ella Lawes and Kate Thomas, where 97% of sessions and games had the whole team in attendance. In Term 3, we will be entering a second Year 3 Netta team for the first time ever, and in Soccer, participation continues to soar, and five teams will take the pitch in Term 3.

Our Years 4 to 6 students have been dominant in the Cross Country competition and currently sit comfortably clear in first place, as do our Years 10 to 12 team!

Mr Eglinton is still seeking more students to join his Years 4 to 6 Aussie Rules team for Term 3, and Miss Nery requires a few more students for her Years 4 to 6 Hockey team. If your daughter is interested in joining these sports next term, please contact the Junior School Sport Coordinator, Megan Harper, on mharper@stpetersgirls.sa.edu.au
