Sensational Student Achievement!
Congratulations to Year 5 student, Mathea, who recently sat her AMEB (Australian Music Examination Board) “Certificate” Exam in Piano and received an A. This is an outstanding result and is a credit to the skill, musicality, and maturity that Mathea brings to each performance. We were honoured to listen to Mathea play one of her pieces as part of the Piano Recital this term.

Year 4s Visit Burnside Council
On Friday 20 June, the Year 4s, teachers and parents embarked on an exciting excursion to the Burnside Council, where they got to meet Mayor Anne Monceaux (nee Harrington, Kennion 1966), participate in two thrilling waste activities and visit the incredible Toy Library.
Before the Year 4s arrived at the Council, they stopped at Tusmore Park for a lunch break. When all the Saints Girls arrived at the Council, they gathered in the Civic Centre to have a brief orientation of what the girls would be doing that day. After getting split into class groups, 4OCO went to visit Mayor Anne Monceaux, who is an Old Scholar and former teacher at Saints Girls. The Mayor led 4OCO to her office. She told the class about all the paintings on the walls and how they all relate to the City of Burnside. Did you know, Mayor Monceaux is the 6th woman mayor of the City of Burnside, and that the first council meetings were held at the Green Gate Inn, which was also a pub! She then led the girls into the Council Chambers, where the councillors have their meetings. The girls got to pretend to be different people with their roles.
When both classes switched activities, 4OCO were now doing waste games with Phil and Cody. They were led to the ballroom and split into two groups. The first group was doing a word search, and the second group was doing a bin race. Each person in the line would pick up a piece of rubbish from a tub and run over to deposit it in the right bin. The team scores a point for each thing that goes into the right bin.
The final part of the Year 4 excursion was a visit to the Toy Library. They met the Toy Librarian, who gave all the girls a job: to find three items in the toy library they would like to borrow and recommend three toys they would like to be in the toy library. After the girls said their farewells to all the staff, Mrs Coulter took them on a tour to see where the Green Gate Inn was and the first council building. What an amazing way to end a brilliant excursion!
All the Year 4s who went on the council excursion had the best time ever and wished the excursion went longer. They would definitely agree that this excursion was one of the best and were truly grateful to have the opportunity to take part in the excursion. Now the girls will know a lot more about the City of Burnside and how local governments work!

4OCO
The Year 4s excursion began at Tusmore Park. The Year 4 teachers, Mrs Vigor and Mrs Coulter, let everyone have fun running wild on the playground, along with some of the Year 4s parents for extra supervision. A few minutes after that, we all sat down for a quick, lovely lunch.
Once we all arrived at the Burnside Council 4STVI and 4OCO split off into our two classes. 4STVI started with the Waste Management activity, and the other class first did the activity in the Civic Centre with Mayor Monceaux.
For the Waste Management activity, we were led by two instructors, Phil and Cody. First, we had to split up into two groups, our house groups! Selwyn with Kennion and Kilburn with Patteson. Kennion and Selwyn first did a Waste Management race, where you sort rubbish into the correct bin. Before we commenced the race, we split into two groups again.
The other task was a word search. Where you had four groups with three students in each group, and three word searches – one for the recycling bin, one for the general waste bin and one for the organics bin. The word searches had words that belong in that bin like cardboard, that belongs in the recycling bin.
Mayor Monceaux invited us into the Mayor’s parlour for the Civic Center activity. While we were there, the Mayor told us all about the history of the Burnside Council building and showed us artworks of how they developed. She also showed us her chain, which has the names of Burnsides’ history of mayors.
Straight after that, we followed the Mayor out of the parlour and into the chambers, which is where the Council have their meeting. We all chose a seat in the big round room and learned about how long people talk in Council time, some may ring a bell, and some of them are directors! Soon after, we asked the Mayor some questions and got to take a mentos with us. Once we thanked the Mayor for letting us enjoy learning about politics, we were on our way through the library and finally made our way to the Burnside Toy Library.
There we received a worksheet, on the work sheet we wrote three toys from library we liked and three we think they should add into the Toy Library. This sheet would be shared with other Toy Library’s, which would help them make it a better place with even more toys!
Finally, our excursion came to an end and we headed back to School.
In conclusion, this was a great day and everyone enjoyed the content on this excursion and the activities, I’m sure no one will ever get bored with. We should all go on more excursions like this in the future!
