Year 8 Camp: Challenge by Choice
The Year 8 Camp to Kangaroo Island in Week 5 was filled with activities and sightseeing that took us across the Island. Students were told this was a ‘challenge by choice’ camp, and they were encouraged to step outside of their comfort zones. When given the choice, they chose to challenge themselves. The students’ attitudes and energy were high across the five days, and many students said how proud they felt for trying something new.

The Year 8 Camp to Kangaroo Island was one of the best I have been on. I loved the opportunity to engage in a variety of water-based activities and make new connections with people in my class. I was terrified of birds before the Raptor Domain Bird Show, but I overcame my fears and ended up holding a big owl. The WEOA instructors and our teachers made the experience so enjoyable, fun and memorable. ~ Mathilda
For me, camp was an eye-opening experience that allowed me to connect with nature in different ways. I personally enjoyed going to Hanson Bay, as I was able to cool off after the tiring hike and capture some nice photos with my friends. I also enjoyed sandboarding, as it was something new I tried and something I had not even heard of before camp! ~ Ellerslie
I feel like camp has changed me in the way that I have learnt to be more open to learning new things. I have learnt to become more persistent and I love the feeling of walking away from camp knowing that I accomplished something. ~ Rachael
One of my favourite moments from camp was bonding with the girls in my class, making new friends, and strengthening the friendships I already had. I also learned that spending so much time outdoors isn’t as bad as I thought—in fact, it was quite refreshing. Taking a break from technology for a whole week was surprisingly enjoyable. Overall, I had an amazing time at camp and thought it was a super fun and memorable experience. ~ Constance

I went camping. Last week, my class went camping on Kangaroo Island, and we took a bus to many different places. Although there were no beds at night and everyone slept on the ground, we all slept really well. It was so funny, and we could even hear loud calls from the grass at night.
The first day was the hardest. We went to Little Sahara and the beach. I didn’t go into the water because there were no shower facilities where we were staying.
The second day was my favorite. We went to the sea and spent the whole day playing. Although we were tired, we had so much fun. By the time we got back, we were so tired that we just fell asleep. I also fell in love with the sea – the blue water, the white sand, and the warm sunshine on my skin. I really loved it and would love to go again in the future.

Year 7 Camp: Caving and Kayaking Adventure
Overall, my Camp experience was awesome. There were many challenges along the way, but because of this it was able to help my homegroup bond together better! Some of the challenges that we faced were doing the 10km walk and the long bus rides. We were able to overcome these challenges by making it fun together! Some of my highlights of camp were doing the Talent Show, where there were celebrity judges, going to the beach, and just hanging out with my homegroup and friends.

Camp was outstanding! We were able to strengthen our bond with our peers and close friends. The highlights included cooking on the Trangia’s on expo night. Kayaking on the lake was amazing, especially since no one capsized. Sleeping in tents was a new experience for many, some struggled setting them up but succeeded by asking others who had finished early for help. In the caves, multiple girls were worried, but once we were inside everyone was fine and we all loved the caves in the end.

This year on camp we went to Robe. My highlight of camp was doing the talent show where my group did a camping remix of Moana and Boomerang by Jojo Siwa and Bad, Bad Day from Despicable Me for the individual category. Our homegroup was overjoyed when we ended up winning the Talent Show! Some challenges for my homegroup included the caves and trying to fit through the optional challenges also kayaking as most girls had never done it before.
