ROWING

2025 South Australian Rowing Championships

Last weekend was the 2025 South Australian Rowing Championships, the pinnacle of the club rowing season. This regatta offered our students opportunities to contest not only their regular school divisions, but age-category divisions and different boat classes. Contested over Saturday and Sunday, all squads competed on Saturday, with some crews also competing in Sunday.

As a state championship regatta, progression systems were in place with only a Final being offered for most events, and A and B Finals being offered in U16 or Year 9 events. In their regular school divisions, all squads performed strongly, with most crews progressing to their finals. Our Year 9 crews managed to progress three crews into the A and B Finals, and were only one place away from progressing a fourth – an incredibly strong showing of depth from the squad. Similarly, the Intermediates progressed both the 10A and 10B crews to the final of the Schoolgirl Year 10 comfortably.

The Seniors withdrew from a number of events, with some students struggling after a busy week (that included Formal and Swimming Carnival). Despite this, a four composed of all Year 11s placed a strong 4th in the Schoolgirl Coxed Four, and a combined Senior squad crew placed 6th in the Under 19 Women’s Eight.

In the age-category events, there were also strong performances in the small boats, including having two Senior pairs progress to the final of the Under 19 Women’s Pair. One of the strongest results of the weekend was Zalia Valmorbida placing 3rd in the Under 16 Women’s Single Scull – an impressive result achieved with limited preparation!

Well done to all of our crews; the 2025 SA Schools’ Head of the River is fast approaching, and we look forward to seeing our students out supporting their friends!

SSSA Swimming Carnival

St Peter’s Girls had an incredible night competing in the SSSA A Division last Monday, facing tough competition made even harder with our Year 7 and 8 girls away on camp. Despite the challenge, every swimmer gave it their all, with amazing efforts from both our competitive swimmers and those stepping up for Saints for the first time. The pool was full of fast and fierce racing, and it was inspiring to see every girl push themselves to the limit—whether chasing a win or powering through to the finish. A fantastic effort from all involved! Great Job Saints!
