Exploring Ferguson Park in Learning Community 2
A strong Reggio Emilia approach is that the environment is a third teacher. As we move into Term 2 and reconnect with our friends, educators, and rituals, we are also reconnecting with our amazing resource, Ferguson Conservation Park, by initially inviting small groups to visit.
Our new Unit of Inquiry also begins this term: Community can grow through communication, shared ideas, and coming together.
We will explore the idea of community, how we connect, the places we meet to connect and our body in relation to these spaces. Ferguson Conservation Park provides a wonderful learning envoriment to explore this idea of community.
The Pathway children will be given many opportunities to connect with each other in a variety of different environments, exploring the idea of community. We will also be working closely with our Scientist in Residence, Timna Garnett, who specialises in nature and animals.
These experiences will allow the children to further develop their understanding of what a community is, how we are connected as part of the ELC community, and what our contribution is to the community. This will allow the children to see themselves as valued members of their community and to support them in feeling recognised and respected for who they are.
These precious experiences contribute strongly in how each child sees themselves and honours their uniqueness as learners. We look forward to sharing more experiences of their visits as the term progresses.
