International Day of Play at Saints Girls
As part of the International Day of Play, our Year 12 students spent time with Reception buddies, sharing games, laughter, and meaningful connections.
These sessions provide a wonderful opportunity to strengthen relationships across year levels, fostering a sense of belonging and community throughout the school.
For our Year 12 students, the experience was also a valuable wellbeing activity, encouraging them to step away from screens, engage in service to others, and it was a reminder of the joy in play from the Receptions.
Watching the older students take on mentoring and caring roles, while the Reception students eagerly shared their enthusiasm and imagination, was a reminder that play remains important at every age.

Future Scientists at Work: Creating Chemistry Magic in Science Club
In Term 2 in Science Club, we have turned our focus to the magic of mixing by focusing solely on the art of chemistry. We have looked at a range of chemical reactions and colourful particle movement each week; some of these tasks have been tricky. Lucky for us, our activities have been assisted by Year 9 mentors, who have been a valuable support to the success of the club activities.
When I asked what the Junior School girls liked the most about this Term’s activities, Ella in Year 1 stated, “all the different experiments” that she gets to do each week. This was supported by Rhea in Year 2, who states, “I love to try new things and do new experiments every week”. Emma states that “I like it all. It’s fun”. If they had to name the most memorable experiment, both Charlie and Ollie in Year 1 states that they loved the MM’s/Skittle experiment where the experiment “showed their colours”. Whereas Skylar loved the drawing and water experiment (chromatography) experiment which shows “how the colours go up the paper”.
Our Year 9 voices capture the excitement of working with the younger girls during Science Club, with thanks to Georgia, Lily and Francesca for providing their perspective below:
“This term we have had the great opportunity to help and support the junior school in the Science Club activities that are held on Friday lunchtimes. This has been a great chance for us to talk to the younger girls at our school and teach them about some of the amazing ways we can see and use science in an educational way that is fun and engaging for everyone. This program that Ms Garnett runs is especially rewarding as it is exposing the younger girls to all the exciting things science involves in a way that is fun and engaging for everyone. The feeling we get from seeing these young girls proudly show their friends their work, or even just come up or wave at us is unmatched. It is great to think that these girls have people to look up to and feel comfortable talking to them. They always have a cheerful positive attitude towards learning and enjoy participating in their science experiments.”
In Term 3, we will explore biology and undertake a long investigation into finding out ‘Who lives here at St. Peter’s Girls’.
