Year 10s Cooking up a Festive Storm
The Year 10 World of Food students have been researching celebrations around the world, and recently created gingerbread houses inspired by Christmas. The students researched and designed their own houses and used a range of techniques from traditional to contemporary designs to decorate them. They have completed their construction; they are ready to take home to share and enjoy with their families and friends.
Merry Christmas from the Year 10 World of Food class.
Year 9s get Creative with Christmas Cooking
In Food Tech we were given the challenge to make a Christmas themed dish. Some students chose savoury dishes and other sweet. Matilda and I decided to make a pavlova shaped Christmas tree. As we began making the pavlova meringues , I realised that piping multiple thin layers was more challenging than I anticipated. It required a steady hand and careful attention to detail to ensure each layer was evenly distributed. As we began assembling the pavlova layers into the shape of a tree, I could see our vision coming to life. It was incredibly satisfying to see the ‘tree’ take shape and stand tall on the plate, ready to be decorated. I loved the creative process of deciding where to place each piece of fruit and trying to make it resemble a Christmas tree. This was such a fun and rewarding task and loved building it with Matilda.
Imogen Pearce
Year 9 Student
During our double In Food tech, Imogen and I made a delicious Christmas tree shaped pavlova with fresh fruit around it representing Christmas ornaments. It took a lot of effort to stack the pavlova just right, but seeing the finished product was so rewarding. I learned how to make a pavlova base from scratch and how to decorate it creatively; I very much enjoyed being creative with the design of our dessert. Although this was challenging, it was so much fun building new skills and overcoming challenges.

Charlotte Helps the Homeless
On Friday evenings, Charlotte Trude volunteers at a Food Hub on Port Road run by a charity called Puddle Jumpers, where she supports people experiencing homelessness. She cooks, serves food and provides food for pantries for close to 100 people. Many have complex mental health issues, and drug and alcohol dependency needs; and many are just like you and me, people who had big jobs, big mortgages and families who loved them, but their lives took a wrong turn.
Charlotte talks to everyone who comes to the food hub with no judgement and all care, many know her by name. She was recently recognised for her service and received the Best New Volunteer Award. Great work Charlotte, we’re all proud of you!
