Head of the River 2025 – Support our Crews!

We are super pumped for the 103rd Head of the River this Saturday, 15 March! Our Rowers have been working hard all season to prepare for their big day. Come along to West Lakes to see them in action. We’d love to see the Saints Girls community out in force to support our crews. Our first race is at 8.15am, the countdown is on!

Job Chat with Jessica Harmsen

Last week we had the great pleasure of hosting Jessica Harmsen from ABC, Adelaide for a JobChat about journalism, broadcasting and communications.

The job chat with Jessica Harmsen was incredibly insightful and engaging, providing a valuable look into the realities of a career in journalism, broadcasting, and communications. Her detailed account of her journey to becoming a journalist was particularly useful as I consider my own future studies, and I found it fascinating to learn about the variety of roles within her field that I had not previously known about. Jessica’s warmth and approachable nature made the conversation both enjoyable and educational, allowing me to gain a deeper understanding of the many responsibilities she takes on daily. Gaining insight into the distinctions between short- and long-form television was particularly informative, and her discussion has further enhanced my interest in pursuing journalism as a potential career.

Today, we listened to Mrs Harmsen talking about her job — journalism, and her life when she studied in Queensland for high school and university. We found out there are many different opportunities for us, and we can change our direction of study into another major at anytime. With effort, it will all come true.
Connie, Year 10

Many thanks to Jessica for sharing her expertise with our girls.

International Women’s Day Lunch

On Friday of Week 6, a group of Year 9 and 12 Leaders attended an International Women’s Day lunch. This was hosted by Complete Disability Services, with all proceeds going to the Ruby Tuesday Foundation as the charity partner. Throughout the day, we were privileged to hear from many esteemed guest speakers, including Dr Trudy Lin (2022 Young Australian Of The Year) and Jane Pappin (CEO for Pop Up Health). We were also able to listen to questions and answers from several panels, which enabled stories to be shared from the perspective of sporting athletes (including Andriana Petrakis and Ilona Melegh), the Minister for Social Services, a NDIS participant, and an NDIS carer. These stories provided insight into the achievements and successes of women in the community. It was an honor to represent the School at such an inspiring event.

Charlotte Meets with Minister Cook

For IB Global Politics, our main assessment of the year is to form an essay about a local political issue that we are interested in. My essay was centred around the government’s involvement in prevention and intervention of homelessness. A key aspect of this assignment is contacting relevant community members and/or volunteers to engage with your political issue. I had the opportunity to interview Minister Nat Cook DHS, in which she provided me with valuable political insight into homelessness and a critical perspective to use in my essay. After the interview, she offered me a position in Youth Parliament South Australia, which I am very keen to be a part of!
