Saints Choristers Shine in Vocal Workshop
On Monday 4 May, many of our Choristers were lucky enough to attend and perform at a feedback and tutoring workshop from this year’s Division 1 Vocal judge at Generations in Jazz, Matt Falker, a renowned vocalist and educator from America. We arrived at Brighton High School with a couple pieces prepared for Matt and a number of choir directors from schools across Adelaide.
As the host of the workshop, Matt reviewed our performances live in front of the choir directors. He brought such a unique perspective to the workshop, and his feedback was precise and well-directed. When dictating his feedback, he would portray the impact that our musical choices had before describing the improvements we could convey with clear directions and stylistic suggestions. Personally, I found it most notable how he connected with each member of the Choir, establishing a collaborative space where the energy in the room continued to grow, as he ensured each person understood his vision. By the end of our performance, he recapped the journey we took, mentioning where we started and how some features felt forced or unnatural, before thinking about how we wanted to be perceived as performers, and using this to guide our changes.
Working with Matt was an opportunity I won’t forget, and I am so grateful to have been able to hear his approach and perspective when teaching a choir.

Meet Esmond Choi

Australian pianist and composer Esmond Choi is an MPhil student studying under Lucinda Collins. Under the supervision of Stephen Whittington and Konstantin Shamray, Esmond conducted research on Charles Ives’s First Piano Sonata, which led to intensive studies with Stephen Drury in Boston. Choi’s premiere of George Crumb’s Metamorphoses earned acclaim from Limelight and The Barefoot Review.
Recent highlights include working with Olli Mustonen and performing at the 2024 She Speaks Festival. Through his series, “The Adventurous Project”, Choi promotes rare 20th-century works, recently debuting Austin Engelhardt’s graphic scores. He will soon return to Boston for an intensive workshop with Marti Epstein.
Save the Date: Year 12 Production – The Domino Effect

The Stage 2 Drama class of 2026 is excited to present their major theatrical production, ’The Domino Effect’ by Fin Kennedy.
The play explores the interconnectedness of the world around us, where characters, objects and events create unlimited sequences of cause and effect. Amina, a young girl who chooses to withdraw from the harshness of society, creates a magical world of imagination and fantasy to shield herself from reality.
The production will be staged on Wednesday 18 and Thursday 19 of June at 7pm, with a special matinee performance on Thursday at 2pm, in the Jefferys Linn Arts Centre. Seating is general admission and there is no cost to attend.
We would love to see our community there to support the students in their assessment. Please save the date for this magical, heartwarming piece of theatre, which we hope will stay with you long after the curtain falls.
