Building Confidence Through Connection and Transition
Across The Erindale, Pathway Hallett and Pathway Ferguson rooms, children have continued to engage in meaningful experiences that nurture confidence, connection and a growing sense of belonging within the wider St Peter’s Girls’ community. Guided by the inquiry-based principles of the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP), the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF) and the Reggio Emilia Approach, we recognise the importance of relationships, environment and authentic experiences in supporting children as capable and confident learners.
Over the past week, children preparing to transition to Reception mid-year have enjoyed visits to the main School campus, where they met Reception teachers and students, listened to the stories, and explored the playground together. These experiences provide valuable opportunities for children to develop familiarity with their future learning environment while building trust, confidence and early relationships with the wider School community. Through exploring the larger climbing equipment, children were encouraged to trust their instincts, assess risk and challenge themselves physically in ways that support resilience, agency and self-confidence.
Our visits also included time exploring the Emily Centre and walking through shared school spaces, including the library and Chapel path. These experiences help children to see themselves as valued members of a connected and close-knit community, while supporting smooth and positive transitions between the ELC and the wider School environment. Transition is viewed not as a single event, but as an ongoing process of relationship-building, emotional security and developing a sense of place and belonging.
As we look ahead to National Reconciliation Week (27 May – 3 June), children will begin engaging in experiences that encourage connection, respect and understanding. This year’s theme, All In, reminds us that reconciliation is a shared responsibility and that meaningful change happens when we all work together with care, respect and commitment. Through stories, discussions and shared learning opportunities, children will continue developing an appreciation for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories, cultures and perspectives in age-appropriate and meaningful ways. By nurturing empathy, curiosity and a sense of community from the early years, we hope to support children in understanding the importance of listening, inclusion and caring for one another and the world around them.

National Reconciliation Week

We warmly invite our ELC families to join us for a special National Reconciliation Week gathering at Ferguson Conservation Park on Friday 29 May at 9.45am.
This year’s theme, “All In,” encourages all Australians to contribute to reconciliation through reflection, learning, respect and meaningful action. As part of our celebration, we will gather in a Palti Circle for Banbanbalya (coming together), where we will share our ELC Acknowledgement of Country and pay our respects to the Traditional Custodians of this land, the Kaurna people. We are delighted to welcome Kendall Fitzgerald back to our ELC community for this special occasion.
Following our gathering, families will be invited to explore Ferguson Conservation Park alongside the children and educators, sharing stories and engaging with the natural environment together. For the Kaurna people, this land holds deep cultural, spiritual and historical significance, offering a meaningful opportunity for us to learn respectfully from Country and place.
