Summer Interhouse 2025

Term 1 finished with a BANG, with all our Summer Sports teams on display throughout Week 11. All Houses won at least one Individual Sports Shield and there were only five points separating fourth from first in the Overall Summer Shield win!

The week kicked off with Middle School Basketball in the gym at lunchtime on Monday. Patteson boasted a very strong team and dominated on the court winning all three of their matches comfortably. Patteson’s Senior School Team, lead by Basketball Captain Januri Wagaarachchi continued their dominant form into Friday afternoons matches also winning all three of their matches to take home the Basketball Shield.

Basketball Placings

  • 1st Patteson
  • 2nd Kennion
  • 3rd Selwyn
  • 4th Kilburn

Tuesday saw our Middle School Volleyball girls in slightly unusual conditions with their matches being played on outdoor courts on the Oval. The girls embraced this challenge and the spectators enjoyed the action from the sidelines.

There were some excellent skills on display and a one-point win by Selwyn over Kilburn in Round 3 saw them take first place in the Middles. Now it came down to the Senior School matches on Friday afternoon to see who would come out on top.

There were a few nail biting matches with Selwyn defeating Patteson in Round 1, 14-13 and then Kilburn and Selwyn having a tie in the final round of the day 16-a-piece! The cheering from inside the gym could be heard throughout our campus as the clock counted down with scores tied and the Shield on the line for Selwyn. Fortunately with the three wins secured by the Middles and two wins and a draw for the Seniors, this was enough to see Selwyn secure the Volleyball Shield.

Volleyball Placings

  • 1st Selwyn
  • 2nd Patteson
  • 3rd Kilburn
  • 4th Kennion

In glorious sunshine, our Touch Football girls took to the Oval for the Middle/Senior matches. Having smaller numbers in Touch the competition was combined, but this did not distract from what was a strong display of skills, agility and speed!

Matches were tight in every round, with the largest winning margin being only three tries across the six matches played. Kennion were able to win all three matches and took home the Touch Football Shield, ahead of Selwyn in second place who only nudged out Kilburn on goal difference!

Touch Football Placings

  • 1st Kennoin
  • 2nd Selwyn
  • 3rd Kilburn
  • 4th Patteson

Rowing was held on the Middle School Deck on Friday afternoon and always brings a crowd and this year was no different. Each House has their own rowing machine set up and girls take turns rowing as hard as they can to get the furthest distance they can within the timeframe. What’s special about the Rowing Interhouse, is that even girls who don’t row for the School can participate as well.

For the fourth tie in the past five years, Patteson came out on top!

Rowing Placings

  • 1st Patteson
  • 2nd Selwyn
  • 3rd Kilburn
  • 4th Kennion

Cricket was hotly contested this year, and with numbers growing at the School, our teams were mainly made up of girls who play in our competition teams with a few ring-ins as opposed to previous years where ring-ins have made up the bulk of some teams.

Our Senior Bs were also coming off winning the Senior B IGSSA Shield for the second year in a row, so the skills on display across all four Houses were great.

Games were decided by average (total runs scored divided by total wickets taken) and we had some very close matches as well as a couple of blow outs!

Patteson, lead by Senior B Champions Antra Docherty, Linna and Jiana Song as well as Senior A players, Neela Malik and Charlotte Dodd remained undefeated across the three rounds and took out the Cricket Shield for the first time since its inception in 2023.

The Cricket Shield has now been won by three separate Houses across the three years of competition, showing the growth and even spread of talent we have in this sport.

Cricket Placings

  • 1st Patteson
  • 2nd Kilburn
  • 3rd Kennion
  • 4th Selwyn

Tennis was the other sport on display for Interhouse and it certainly looked different to previous years. With four courts now gone due to the new build, plus having to give up another outdoor court to accommodate Basketball, running Middle/Senior Tennis on one afternoon on one court was certainly a challenge! Tennis Captain, Leah Huynh did a great job coming up with a format that maximised participation as well as enjoyment for the teams.

With Selwyn and Kilburn boasting several of our Premier League players, they were tipped to be the teams to beat. Both won their respective matches against Kilburn and Kennion comfortably, so it came down to a showdown between them and the match did not disappoint to strong crowd watching.

There were a number of great rallies and outright winners hit by both Houses, but it was Kilburn who came out of top defeating Selwyn by one point at the end of the allotted time. This secured Kilburn the Tennis Shield win, making it back-to-back wins for them.

Tennis Placings

  • 1st Kilburn
  • 2nd Selwyn
  • 3rd Kennion
  • 4th Patteson

After all the matches were complete on Friday afternoon, the girls gathered in The Chapel to hear the announcement of the winners. There was a nervous energy in the air, as the girls knew it was close with only one point separating first and second place. Having bagged the Shield in three of the six sports on offer, Patteson came out on top and took home the Summer Interhouse Shield. The girls erupted with joy when they heard their Houses name and went straight into their House Chant which I’m sure could have been heard out onto Hallett Road.

Final Placings

  • 1st Patteson
  • 2nd Selwyn
  • 3rd Kilburn
  • 4th Kennion

A huge thank you must go out to all Sports Captains and House Captains for their work in pulling the Summer Interhouse together. They organise everything from fixtures and teams to umpires and scoresheets. I’d also like to thank all the stuff who assisted in scoring, timing or umpiring matches.

Now it’s time to put away the summer sports equipment and gear up for winter!
