ANZAC Europe Trip 2025

A group of Senior students travelled to Europe on our 2025 ANZAC trip over the holidays. We started in London and enjoyed everything this wonderful city has to offer, from the Imperial War Museum to Buckingham Palace, the London Eye, and the exciting West End theatre. The Warner Bros. Harry Potter Studio Tour was a highlight for everyone. It was incredible to walk around such detailed and well-lit sets, to learn about the costumes and animatronic creatures, and to taste Butterbeer for the first time.

The Eurostar took us to Paris, where we enjoyed the sights and visited the Palace of Versailles. We were blown away by the intricate artworks and the Hall of Mirrors.

We then ventured north to the Western Front, The Somme, to study the heroic contributions of our Australian troops in World War One. Our tour made us feel proud of our young nation while giving us a firsthand understanding of the horrors of war, the battlefields, memorials and Commonwealth War Cemeteries. Our excellent tour guide Jon, taught us so much about the Great War.

We began our World War Two study with a visit to Anne Frank’s House in Amsterdam. Berlin then provided a unique historical perspective. Most intriguing were the memorials to the Holocaust and the remnants of the Cold War wall. The Jewish Memorial in the heart of Berlin served as a sobering reminder of the atrocities endured. The remaining pieces of the Berlin Wall were truly mesmerising, reminding us of what life was like in the divided city. The East Side Gallery, showcasing street art on portions of the Berlin Wall, was an amazing experience that demonstrated how Berliners creatively expressed their frustrations regarding political divisions. On our final day in Munich, we spent time at Dachau, linking our experience at the Jewish Memorial in Berlin to the harsh realities of a concentration camp.

On ANZAC Day, we were fortunate enough to be invited to the Australian Embassy in Berlin as guests of the Ambassador, Natasha Smith, for breakfast after attending the ANZAC Day Service and laying a wreath on behalf of St Peter’s Girls’ and the Youth of Australia.

While the focus of the trip was history and a chance to practice our French, we did manage to positively support the economy of the EU with our expert ability to shop!

The trip has left us with a lifetime of memories and an understanding of historical complexities that have shaped Europe.

Careers Opportunities – Thinking Outside the Box

Amelia Attends Agricultural Careers Camp

Earlier this year, Amelia Sutherland had the opportunity for a trip to Tasmania to learn about a career in agriculture. Organised and sponsored by the Tasmanian Institute of Agriculture, Amelia attended the Feed Your Mind, Feed The World camp. This three day camp looked at careers stemming from a University of Tasmania agricultural science degree. Click here to read a full article about this trip.

Each year we pass on to our girls many opportunities and experiences. Please encourage your daughter to make the most of these and think ‘outside the box’ when talking about possible future pathways.

Malaika Attends Engineering Workshop

On the first Tuesday of the holidays, I participated in an engineering workshop lead by BAE Systems at Osborne which I found worth attending. I spent the day learning about so many different types of engineering, some of which I never knew about until then. I loved this event and was glad that I had signed up for it. It was an eyeopener and a great experience to be able to discuss with Engineers across different fields and learn about their work while also connecting with students from other high schools all across the state. I would highly encourage all students keen to venture into Engineering, if given the opportunity, to participate in such workshops as they give you so much insight into future career pathways, especially if you are unsure of where exactly you want to go in the future.
