Ready, Set, Solve! The Amazing Race Unleashed

On Wednesday 14 May, our Year 7, 8, and 9 students swapped pens for sneakers and set off on an unforgettable adventure—the Amazing Maths Race! This action-packed, 60-minute incursion transformed the School grounds into a fast-paced puzzle trail filled with mathematical challenges, teamwork, and a healthy dose of friendly competition.

In teams of four, the girls raced through eight themed stations, cracking clues to unlock their next destination. The Chapel transformed into “Greece,” then it was off to “Arabia” in the Drama Room, “Egypt” on the Oval, and road-blocks in the Science Foyer, Tuck Shop, and Senior Art Room. Some of these sparked sighs as teams realised they’d need to revisit questions to continue—just like in the real show!

The challenges drew on all curriculum areas from number and fractions to algebra, measurement, space, and probability—offering a dynamic way to strengthen reasoning, collaboration, and persistence. There may have been a few wrong turns and puzzled faces along the way, but every team rose to the challenge with energy and enthusiasm.

The student feedback captured the spirit of the day:
“It was very fun, and it felt like the real thing I watched on TV,” shared Maddie.
“It was really fun and it got my brain working,” added Clara.
And Arya summed it up beautifully:
“The questions were challenging enough for me to answer—I loved the thrill of the run!”

The Amazing Race is just one of the ways we’re making learning engaging, meaningful, and fun—showing our students that maths isn’t just something you do at a desk… sometimes, it’s something you race for.
