Having the opportunity to reflect on a year as Head of Middle School has emphasised how much we have achieved as a School, and what an amazing community we have here at Saints Girls. The Middle School is a vibrant and welcoming space, and as I walk through, I am proud of how engaged our girls are in their learning. They smile, laugh, and challenge one another – the genuine learning culture is evident. Every day, I see the girls collaborate, reflect on achievements, develop goals for progression, support one another through adversity, and build trusting relationships with those around them. Our girls are what make this School amazing.
Establishing strong connections with students and their families in our School community has been the most rewarding part of the year. Seeing friendly faces at school drop-off each morning, parent-teacher interviews, and casual chats at School sports – I have valued getting to know so many of you. This community extends to the teaching and non-teaching staff in the School, who I know share the same commitment as I do to educate our girls to become women of character and influence.
There have been many memorable occasions this year, where our Middle School girls have displayed their wide-ranging abilities and School spirit. The outstanding academic achievements at the da Vinci Decathlon, the creative and captivating performances at Fusion and year level Arts Nights, the athletic skills displayed on the sporting fields, and their resilience and engagement at outdoor camps. I have especially loved the House events – from the sea of colour at Choral Night, to the cheers at Swimming Carnival and Sports Day. The sense of belonging the House system brings is evident every day.
I see each day as an educator as a privilege, knowing the significant impact education can have on our young people. The importance of Middle School, a time of considerable physical, academic, social, and emotional growth, cannot be understated. The changes experienced from the start of Year 7 to graduating Year 9 are extensive. I have tried to lead with purpose, empathy, creativity and fun, and hope to continue this in the years ahead. I look forward to seeing many of you at the upcoming celebrations of another school year and thank you for a positive and memorable 2024.
