Junior School Dance

This year, we were excited to offer our Year 4, 5 and 6 Junior School girls the opportunity to participate in Dance as part of the co-curricular program here at Saints Girls. We were thrilled that so many girls were excited to be part of the dance program in its inaugural year. The program commenced in Term 1, where the girls spent time learning what it is like to be involved in a dance class. There was a focus on building technique, developing the girls’ sense of spatial awareness, coordination, flexibility and listening skills.

The lessons quickly progressed and by Term 2, the focus shifted to learning choreographed routines and styles such as lyrical, jazz and musical theatre, in preparation for the concert performance in Term 3. This gave the girls an opportunity to work towards a common goal as a team, learning choreography, connecting with music and building an appreciation for creating something together. It was wonderful to witness the girls’ comradery and improvement throughout these weekly lessons.

In Year 4, the first routine the girls learnt was a lyrical to the song ‘A Million Dreams’ from the hit musical movie, ‘The Greatest Showman’. The second was a dance choreographed by Year 12 student Sienna Huxtable to ‘Dance The Night’, an iconic song from the new ‘Barbie’ movie. The girls worked extremely hard in the lead up to the concert, showcasing their determination, grit, commitment, discipline and collaboration throughout this journey. The highlight was seeing their performance come together on the evening of the concert and witnessing their pure joy and elation when they came off the stage with the biggest smiles on their faces.

Thank you to everyone who was involved in making this performance possible and we appreciate the support from the wider Saints Girls community. We look forward to showcasing our Junior School dancers in future years as we continue to grow and enhance the dance program here at Saints Girls.

Year 4 Dance Teacher

A huge thank you to our new dance teaching staff, Amelie Zacharia Henley (Patteson 2023) and Shelley Young who worked with our Years 5 and 6 students over three terms to create graceful and expressive lyrical routines and energetic jazz dances. Year 5 students worked on their own choreography in small groups, exploring the skill of creating movement for stage.

I smiled from ear to ear the whole time and am incredibly excited to watch this dance program continue to grow and flourish in the Junior School, building confidence, teamwork and a love of performance in our junior students.

Junior Girls Take to the Stage for Their Music Concert

Our annual Years 2,3 and 4 Music Concert was held on Tuesday afternoon, celebrating the end of the Instrumental Immersion program. The girls performed to a packed audience of friends and family, sharing the skills and knowledge they have developed over the past three terms of music learning. It was wonderful to see our creative and confident music students shine in, for many of them, their first music concert.
