Year 5 Visit to Parliament House
This term, the Year 5s went on an exciting excursion to Parliament House. On our arrival, we were warmly greeted by Jack Batty, the Liberal MP for Bragg, and his co-workers. He gave us a tour of the main chambers, and we learned about the House of Assembly and the Legislative Council. In the House of Assembly, we learned about traditions and history stemming from England and the development of democracy. Some of these traditions include the Mace, the Bloodline, the Sergeant at Arms and many other things. After this, Mr Batty set up a mini-debate: St Peter’s Girls’ School should not have Homework, and we had to be parliamentarians voting on this topic.
The Upper House was bright red and had less seats but the Mace was different. During question time, Mr Batty said he was very impressed by our level of knowledge and understanding of the South Australian parliamentary system and democracy in general.

Receptions
This week, the families of Reception students were invited into our learning community. The classrooms were buzzing with excitement as the girls proudly shared their classrooms and their learning with their families and enjoyed completing an Easter craft together.
It was a wonderful opportunity for families to connect with their daughters and with each other in the classroom. Thank you to everyone who shared in this experience and for your ongoing support.
