Looking for Adventure

This year’s Book Week theme, Book an Adventure, provided our students with the opportunity to engage in new experiences and learning opportunities.

Last Tuesday, we had the honour of Allayne Webster coming to visit us. She shared her past experiences with health issues as well as how she overcame these challenges. I enjoyed hearing how she turned her personal connections into inspiration for her writing. It was encouraging to learn about the importance of resilience and creativity in facing obstacles.
Layla Dodd, 9SHLI

During Allayne Webster’s visit to our class, she shared her inspiring journey as an author, explaining how persistence and creativity helped her achieve success. Books helped her overcome struggles in life. She shared how writing takes passion and love for telling stories.
Christina Balasis, 9SHLI

On the 21st of August, Adelaide-based Author/Illustrator, Timothy Ide came to St Peter’s Girls’ School and shared his journey through writing and illustrating. His book Medieval Monsters and Other Creatures was the first book he both wrote and illustrated. I thought this experience was very inspiring and highly enjoyable. I loved how he told us about himself and what he likes to do. He showed the step-by-step process of illustrating and writing a book.
Daisy Karamanlis, 7ESKI

The Student Library Initiatives Club (SLIC) played a key role again this year before and during Book Week, selecting a Book of the Year nomination which they performed at the Junior School Assembly. Once Spiro was selected, SLIC members prepared the script, assisted with costumes and props, then commenced rehearsals. On Friday, August 22, these adventurous girls entertained their audience by retelling the story of web-weaving Spiro supported by Mr Davidson as Gary in a cameo appearance. Bella Hasda-Hall accompanied by Mack Atkinson, MC’d the event joined by the Junior Library Leaders, expertly supported by Mr Scott Lorien and his Theatre Tech team.

To conclude our celebrations, in the latest issue of SLIC reView features our two visitors along with the Shortlist and Winners of the Older Reader Book of the Year.
