Proud Moments and Big Wins at the Makers Empire Naturally Brave Competition!

This week, our Year 6 students took centre stage at the Makers Empire Naturally Brave Showcase, where their ingenuity and empathy shone through as they presented solutions to help people and animals before, during, or after a bushfire. Over the past two terms, they’ve worked tirelessly, embracing the STEM Design Thinking Process to craft innovative responses to this real-world challenge. And the result? Four amazing teams, each one demonstrating the compassion, courage, and creativity we hold dear at our School.

Our School was represented by:

  • Fauna Fort – Maddie, Emily, and Zara
  • Blaze Haven – Hannah and Ivy
  • Blaze Tech – Mimi and Georgia
  • Drone Fleet – Olivia, Amelia, and Indy

We couldn’t be prouder of every team! We’re thrilled to share that Drone Fleet won the prestigious Peer Award – chosen by students from all 19 schools as the top project! This outstanding achievement didn’t just resonate with students; it also caught the eye of a Channel 9 news reporter who interviewed Olivia, Amelia, and Indy on the spot. Don’t miss their big moment – tune in to Channel 9 news this weekend to see our future STEM leaders in action!

Here’s a sneak peek at what our students felt about this unique experience:

Working with empathy helped us to practice a valuable skill as it was able to allow us to improve our ideas and to be more creative, something my group enjoyed was being able to include more creativity into our design also, making the diorama for our model to sit in was also a fun experience. Competing with others interested in the same topic was a fun and enjoyable experience, something I enjoyed the most from competing was sharing my ideas with others and hearing their feedback on our design.
Maddie, Emily, Zara

Throughout the whole process one of my favourite things was making and designing. I loved thinking about the Design Thinking process and how I could incorporate that into the product we created.
Mimi

The Maker’s Empire Naturally Brave course was a great opportunity to extend my thinking. I really enjoyed the course, and it was a great experience. The competition was really rewarding, and it was fun to see what my peers, as well as people from the other schools created.
Hannah!

Our Year 6 teams have proven that they’re not only talented problem-solvers but compassionate young leaders, ready to change the world with their bright ideas. Let’s celebrate their achievements and keep supporting them on their exciting STEM journeys!
