EDGE goes to Space!

On Wednesday 30 October we held an exciting day for students in T4 EDGE. A science focus day saw the students creating and launching stomp rockets, building LEGO satellites, visiting the Space Centre, attending a university science exhibition and even making galaxy donuts.

We started the day with Reception to Year 10 students working together in a team activity to solve a meteor problem.  This tested their problem solving, creative thinking and collaboration.  We might have lost one or two students to space!

The group split with Years 6 to 10 heading into the city to explore the Space Centre and solve a problem about Mars. After that they headed for lunch and onto an exhibition to explore STEM study at university. Meanwhile, back at School, the girls were learning all about Fleet Space Technologies, a business here in Adelaide that creates satellites.  They built replica Satellites out of LEGO and got to compare them to the real thing.  After lunch it was time to learn about rockets and begin designing and launching their own stomp powered rockets.  We finished off the day creating yummy galaxy donuts and sharing the results of the stomp rocket project.
