The Year 5 cohort and staff are thrilled to announce this year’s much-anticipated production: OLIVER! JR

Excitement is building across the school as rehearsals are now in full swing. Our talented Year 5 students are hard at work, bringing to life this beloved musical adaptation of Oliver Twist by Charles Dickens.

This timeless story follows young Oliver on his journey from a bleak workhouse to the bustling streets of Victorian London. Along the way, he meets a cast of unforgettable characters—from a band of pickpockets to kind strangers—as he searches for family, belonging, and a place to call home.

 🎟️ Don’t miss out!

We can’t wait to showcase the incredible talent of our Year 5 students and share this magical production with our School community!

With excitement,
Shelley, Shane, Jodie & Sasha

Year 6 Students Embark on Mission to Mars

The Year 6 classes recently embarked on an exciting excursion to Hamilton Secondary College’s Mission to Mars, launching their PYP Exhibition journey with an unforgettable provocation. Students stepped into the role of astronauts, scientists, and engineers, working together to solve challenges faced on a simulated Mars mission.

From navigating the control room to conducting experiments in the Mars habitat, they experienced first-hand the importance of teamwork, problem-solving, and creative thinking. This immersive day not only sparked curiosity about space exploration but also inspired big questions and ideas that will guide their own inquiries in the weeks ahead.

A Radicool Incursion!

The Reception girls delighted in our ‘Radicool Reptiles’ incursion as we welcomed Nadia and her reptile family to our classroom! Nadia began the session by gently talking about why her family members are so special. She also explained how we can keep the reptile visitors safe. Nadia also spoke about the differences between respecting and not interfering with wild reptiles and animals, and being able to interact with these visitors safely in the classroom.

We discovered interesting facts like reptiles are cold-blooded and have a ‘third eye’ on the top of their head to help catch the sun and warm them. They like to be patted, but not on this special part of their body. She spoke with such tenderness that the girls felt the care and warmth and developed curiosity and courage.

We met lots of lizards including Bumblebee the tiny, jumping gecko! We were surprised that the turtle could run so fast and we loved meeting Crikey the crocodile, with his special mouth harness to remind him that it is safe learning time!

The girls loved meeting Aretha the python as she slithered across their laps for a tickle! It was an amazing experience and the perfect provocation for our newest inquiry!

PYP Exhibition – A visit by Dr Gordon Cable AM

Our Year 6 cohort are working hard on their culminating PYP Exhibition for 2025 and I have been very fortunate to be able to work closely with these girls. We have revised all of the terminology for the PYP and begun to frame their questions and Lines of Inquiry within the exciting Central Idea: ‘Space Innovation demands courage, creativity and compassion.

As part of their provocation, each Year 6 class had the opportunity to visit Hamilton Secondary College to take part in the Mission to Mars programme. This is a full day, scenario-based experience that has students taking part in activities that stimulated their thinking.

Another provocation session involved a talk by Dr Gordon Cable. Dr Cable is a Specialist in Aerospace Medicine and President-Elect of the Australasian College of Aerospace Medicine. He is co-founder and Head of Flight Medicine with Human Aerospace Pty Ltd. In 2015, he was appointed a Member of the Order of Australia for contributions to aerospace medicine.

The girls had sent Dr Cable their inquiry questions before his visit and he had prepared an excellent presentation on Mars. With him, the students looked at why Mars is a possible planet for future off-world habitation and the associated issues for humans, both logistically and physically.

Much of the focus of his talk was on space medicine and how the human body is affected by space and microgravity and what hurdles will have to be jumped to enable such a long voyage and possible habitation.

The girls were incredibly focused during his session and asked probing, insightful questions.
