ROWING

The weekend saw our rowing crews race for the first time in the 2024/25 season. Our Seniors and Intermediates contested the ‘Round the Island’ regatta – a demanding 7300m Time Trial around Delfin Island – whilst our Juniors competed in the 2024 Junior Regatta held immediately afterwards.

‘Round the Island’ is always a key early season target, as performance at this regatta is indicative of physical fitness, mental toughness and technical efficiency. It was promising to see both our Senior 8+ and Intermediate 4x+ produce strong results, placing 4th and 2nd in their respective categories. These results placed our crews favourably against their key competition for the season and bodes well for the coming weeks and months.

Following the conclusion of ‘Round the Island’ our Junior squad competed in the 2024 Junior Regatta. Although the divisions were divided into 7/8 and 8/9 categories, we decided to keep our crews mixed. This approach ensured that every crew had returning Year 8 students in them who had already experienced racing and that these students could mentor the crew through their first regatta. This approach meant that half of our crews were “By Invitation” (meaning they were not eligible for that category and would be excluded from the official results). Regardless, our participation in the regatta aimed to give our new students their first experience of racing and focus on our process, staying composed and executing our technical goals. It was wonderful to see many of our crews producing strong results, but more rewarding still was watching the proficiency with which our crews raced their first regatta. Well done to all of our students!

Saints Soccer Stars at Singapore International Youth Cup

Congratulations to football stars, Aurelia Weidenbach (Year 9), Natalia DiMauro (Year 8) and Emily Hannah (Year 7), who represented South Australia in the SingaCup. The girls travelled to Singapore and competed against teams from Australia, Singapore, Thailand and Hong Kong.

Aurelia and Natalia’s U14 team made it through to the 2nd Semi Final, whilst Emily reflected on the tournament as a great experience and described every game as a learning opportunity and a way to learn to adapt to different styles of play.

Well done girls!

Fun and Games at PE Week

PE Week has been a raging success, with great participation and enjoyment seen amongst students and staff! Students showed their evasive skills in a game of Red Rover on Monday, and on Tuesday, staff proved no match for the students in the Staff v Students Badminton match, with their only victory coming from Old Scholar and now coach, Yang Yang Gu. On Wednesday, some fantastic Classic Catches were seen on the oval, with students awarded a Zooper Dooper for their amazing efforts! Staff pegged one back in the Staff v Students Basketball match on Thursday with a 24-point win, and on Friday, the gym was converted into a Ninja Warrior Course for the Junior School students.

Well done to all students and staff who were involved in the activities as a participant or spectator!
