Anastasia the Musical – Year 5 Production
A Standing Ovation to our Girls!

In Term 3, the Year 5 cohort worked on what is the most exciting Unit of Inquiry of the year called ‘All the World’s A Stage’ which centres around the Year 5 musical. This year, we presented Anastasia the Musical, a story based on the Romanov family, the Russian revolution and the exploits of the three lead characters – Anastasia, Dmitry and Vlad who plot to leave Russia, go to Paris and achieve riches in the process. Of course, their plans don’t eventuate exactly the way they had hoped but honesty, integrity and self-knowledge are richly rewarded by the end of the show.

During the unit of work, the girls learnt about roles and responsibilities involved in a production and the history of theatre. Auditions were held in Term 2 and then the hard work began with rehearsals throughout the rest of Terms 2 and 3.  Excitement increased as the production drew closer and the show took shape with elaborate costumes, wonderful projections which enhanced the storytelling, and slick song and dance routines.

One of the biggest rewards the girls gained from doing the production itself, was the development of independence skills, team building and increased confidence that comes from doing a live performance. The school community were very praiseworthy of this magnificent show and of the incredible talent of the Year 5 students. The main lead roles were played by Airlie McCarthy (Anastasia), Samantha Paltridge (Dmitry) and Elizabeth Sinclair (Vlad). All of the Year 5 girls did an amazing job and should be exceedingly pleased with their efforts and the final outcome. Congratulations and thanks to the students and the many dedicated staff for their input and assistance in bringing this show to the stage.
