AUSSIE RULES

Senior A: Saints 1.2 (8) v Walford 2.1 (13)
The girls came up against a difficult opponent in Walford for their Intercol match, as well as difficult conditions with a howling wind across the ground. It was a low scoring, tight contest with defence dominant across the ground. Unfortunately, we just could not move the ball with fluency into our forward line and Walford were able to hold on with a 5-point victory. Mathilda Thomas was the standout player today, breaking out of contests at will and giving us first use of the ball.

BASKETBALL

Year 3-4 Blue: Saints (10) v Seymour (36)
Best Players: Issy Perry, Alex He, Claire Lucas and Summer Bannear.
Superwoman: Rebecca Xia was prolific, running around chasing after loose balls on both offence and defence. Scoring her most points this year and consistently improving her skills, Rebecca’s effort and impact was on full display.

Year 3/4 White: Saints (10) Pembroke (31)

NETBALL

Year 5-6 Sky: Saints (7) v Westminster (6)

Year 5-6 White: Saints (5) v Wilderness (32)
Best Player: Olivia
Superwoman: Rachel

Year 5-6 Silver: Saints (9) v Seymour (0)
Best player: Olivia Chin
Superwoman: Rachel Gong

Year 5-6 White: Saints (17) v Seymour (2)
Best Player: Ellie Knight
Superwoman: Estelle Hunter-Riviere

Year 5-6 Blue: Saints (28) v Westminster School (4)
Another amazing team effort! This group plays so well together, it’s great to see.
Best Player: Vanessa Barnes: her defensive work was impressive today. She played front, had exceptional footwork and hands over the ball.
Super Woman: Evie Leedham: her work rate is always high and support for her teammates is always so positive. Always smiling and encouraging, but super competitive and wants the ball!

Year 5-6 Navy: Saints (8) v Concordia (11)
Best Player: Alice Bigg
Superwoman: Josie Jeffrey

Year 4 White: Saints (3) v Concordia (24)
Best Player: Poppy Begley
Superwoman: Eva Nicholls

SOCCER

Premier League: Saints (5) v Pembroke (1)

Division 1: Saints (2) v Wilderness (1)
Best Player: Ashlyn May played the first half in goals, before spending the second as striker. From saving goals to scoring them, Ash found the back of the net twice; an outstanding debut in the outfield!
Superwoman: Grace Marshall; although all of the Middle Bs that filled in deserve credit for the courage they showed in playing an opponent team consisting mostly of Year 12s, Grace was exceptional in showing patience on the ball, laying off incisive through balls, and making runs in attack. Well done!

Middle A: Saints (0) v Wilderness (4)
The team put in a big effort. We were very competitive and kept going until the end. We created some good chances going forward, kept a good structure and played with heaps of energy!

Year 3-4 Blue: Saints (3) v Walford (0)

National Cross Country Success

A huge congratulations to Year 7 student Amelia Sheridan who finished in first place in the girls 14-year-old age division at the Australian Cross Country Championships. The championships were held near Launceston, Tasmania, with horrific weather making for a very wet and muddy course.

A fantastic achievement, Amelia!

Under 20 World Athletic Championships

Charlotte McAuliffe has once again donned the Green and Gold for Australia in the Under 20 World Athletics Championships in Peru. On Saturday she ran in the heats of the women’s 4x400m, where they qualified for the final. Charlotte didn’t race in the final, but the team, including Charlotte, won a silver medal!

Knockout Badminton and Netball

Our Year 9/10 and Open Netball teams, and Open Badminton team competed at the School Sport SA Statewide Championships last week, achieving some fantastic results.

Our badminton team secured second place, going down to a very strong Glenunga International in the Grand Final, and the Year 9/10 netballers came in third place.

In Open Netball, our girls took out the championship after a gallant two goal victory over Woodcroft College. This is the first time our Opens have won the championship, and only the second time Saints have won the title, the last time being in 2010 when our Year 9/10s claimed the trophy.

Well done to the players and coaches involved!

FISAF Aerobics Nationals

Three teams from Saints Girls attended the FISAF National Championships in the Gold Coast which ran from Wednesday 28 August until Sunday 1 September. I was incredibly proud of our girls’ achievements, dedication and spirit throughout this event, and the whole season. Each team went on stage with nothing to lose and gave it their best shot which is all we can ask for. Considering we had many first time athletes competing in nationals this year, I was amazed at how everyone handled their nerves, organised themselves and brought the most amazing energy throughout the day.

Although our Saints teams did not place, it was the best performance yet by each team. We were up against some amazing schools with older athletes; however, we were still competitive and fierce. Additionally, these sections all had 10-14 other competitors from different states! Regardless of the results, we demonstrated the Saints values: courage, compassion and creativity and each team improved significantly from their first competition in May. I could not be prouder of each team, and I know that next year the girls will be experienced and produce amazing routines.

I strongly encourage everyone to return to aerobics next year and hope we have inspired some new girls to come and try this sport because it is great for fun and fitness, and an amazing opportunity to go away and compete at a national level.

Other Aerobics News

This year we had 2 girls from our Aerobics teams, Zoe White (Year 9) and Lara Maione (Year 11), compete at FISAF Nationals with their club Activ8. Zoe competed in the international category and placed 1st overall and Lara competed in the National section and came 2nd overall! These are amazing achievements to reach at a club level, and we are excited to see where this sport can take you in the future.

Year 3 student Harriet Bogatec competed with her local club Activ8 at the national tournament. Harriet oozed courage and confidence as she took to the stage with her team of four, who finished in 5th place.

Women’s Under 20 World Lacrosse Championships

Congratulations to Ashlyn May and Dani Cox who have been in Hong Kong competing in the Women’s Under 20 World Lacrosse Championships. The team had a great tournament and ended up playing Japan for the Bronze medal last Saturday. Unfortunately, going down 5-14, the team finished a gallant 4th overall.

The U20 World Cup was an incredible experience, and I loved every minute of it. Competing against other countries like the USA and Canada taught me many new skills and helped improve my performance. On this trip, I was able to build new connections with my interstate and overseas teammates and make lifelong friendships. I am so thankful for the opportunity to represent Australia and wear the green and gold; it was truly an unforgettable experience. I am so proud of the team’s achievements with finishing 4th in the world out of 20 countries. We improved so much throughout the championship; the 13 months of hard work leading up to the tournament paid off!
