We have enjoyed an incredible two weeks in the Junior School, celebrating both Science Week and Book Week with a series of fun and enriching activities.
Science Week
During Science Week, our girls enthusiastically engaged in a variety of classroom and lunchtime science experiments led by our Scientist in Residence, Lene Van Schalkwyk. They approached each activity with critical and creative thinking, posing questions, solving problems, and working together to explore the principles of physics and the wonders of chemistry. From vibrant chemical reactions that captivated their imaginations to hands-on experiments that sparked curiosity, the girls were fully immersed in the exciting world of science.
Our celebrations concluded with a fabulous Year 2 Science Fair Assembly. Our Year 2 scientists showcased their innovative projects and experiments with impressive confidence and skill. Their presentations were informative and filled with a delightful spirit of fun and love of learning. This was a joy to be part of and a memorable highlight of Science Week, we thank the Year 2 girls and their teachers, Alana Lesiw and Emma Sippe, for their wonderful assembly.
Book Week
“The more that you read, the more things you will know. The more that you learn, the more places you’ll go.” – Dr Seuss.
Tania Ingram, Adelaide author and engaging presenter, launched our Book Week celebrations holding captivating author talks with our Reception to Year 3 students and writers’ workshops with all Year 4 to 6 classes. Our girls were inspired by Tania’s presentations, with her passion for reading and writing generating lots of questions about the work of an author and how to create a fabulous narrative. We warmly thank Tania Ingram for joining us and Louisa Mitchell, our Junior School Librarian, for coordinating a range of activities for our girls relating to Book Week. We also thank Lisa Hollis, Kate McBride and the SLIC girls for their contributions to our spectacular Book Week Assembly, where all JS teachers performed their own version of The Magic Hat, much to the delight of our Junior School students!
Anastasia our Year 5 Production
We now look forward to our Year 5 Musical Anastasia, to be performed in Week 10. Rehearsals are in full swing, costumes look exquisite, and there is a definite buzz of excitement in the Junior School as we enjoy hearing the girls practice their lines and enchanting songs about a brave young woman on a journey to find her identity and real family. I encourage you to purchase your tickets soon; the talents and skills of our Year 5 girls continue to amaze us all – it will be a fabulous show!
