Science Week at Saints Girls
Science Week at Saints Girls was an inspiring week to be a part of. The week was packed with activities and events that engaged students across all year levels, making science approachable to all.
Our youngest scientists in Reception began their exploration by looking at the world around us through microscopes, discovering a hidden world full of intricate details. The Year 1 students ventured into the world of light and sound, uncovering how these fundamental forces are vital to life and the survival of species.
During lunchtime, the girls created dazzling lava lamps, engineered catapults to explore physics principles, assembled circuits to better understand electricity, and experimented with the chemistry of slime making. As the theme this year was species survival, the girls also explored the complexities of life cycles and species survival, gaining a greater appreciation for the natural environment.
Middle and Senior School students connected with real-world science through interactive talks and hands-on experiments that emphasised the practical applications of their classroom learning. These experiences helped them see the relevance of science in everyday life and sparked deeper interest in pursuing scientific inquiry.
A highlight of the week was the celebration of the Oliphant Science Awards, where students showcased their creativity and innovation in science. We saw some amazing posters, models and played some incredible board games designed and made by the students. The impressive projects demonstrated the remarkable talent and enthusiasm of our students.
Beyond Science Week, various events throughout the year have continued to fuel our students’ passion for science, ensuring that exploration and learning are ongoing and encouraged.
A heartfelt thank you goes out to all the girls and their teachers for their enthusiasm and active participation. I look forward to many more opportunities to explore, question, and ignite a lifelong passion for discovery and scientific curiosity.

Anglican Leadership Network
On Thursday 15 August, student leaders from Years 6, 8 and 10 had the privilege of attending the annual Anglican School Network Group Leadership Day hosted by Walford. This opportunity enabled us to develop our leadership skills. Each year a concept is selected, and activities are planned for groups of student leaders from different Anglican schools. This year the concept was charity, justice and service. After a presentation about this from a global perspective, each group was encouraged to explore solutions to local problems. We also discussed ways to implement solutions around our schools to improve the connections between year levels to enhance the sense of community. Developing a common vision with students from other schools allowed us to collaborate and test our ideas while practising our communication skills. The Saints Girls representatives developed a strategy for building community connections across the School, we presented an elevator pitch to the whole group and had the opportunity to hear ideas presented by the other school teams. We all enjoyed the day with everyone getting involved, and we look forward to taking action and further building our Saints Girls’ community.
Being able to have a voice is important when being a leader, and this opportunity was given at every point during the day. Sharing a common vision with others we haven’t met before showed how important it is to have connections.
