Celebrating Our Talented Young Scientists in the Oliphant Science Competition!
This year, St Peter’s Girls’ School proudly participated in the Oliphant Science Awards, with 38 entries from students across Years 3 to 12. Our talented students showcased their skills and creativity in diverse categories, including computer programming, apps and robotics, games, models and inventions, photography, posters, and scientific inquiry.
Alyssa from Year 5 received a Highly Commended award for her Crystal Investigation project, where she, along with Rita from Year 3 and Anya from Year 4, demonstrated remarkable dedication and enthusiasm for science by growing crystals from tiny 3mm seeds into magnificent octahedron crystals over 50mm in size.
In addition to this achievement, several other students were recognised for their exceptional work and must be congratulated. Zoe (Year 7) won an outstanding three prizes and received a Highly Commended certificate; Ania (Year 8) earned a place winner award in the Programming, Apps and Robotics category and several sponsor prizes; Evie (Year 5) and Tiara (Year 8) each received Highly Commended awards for their outstanding contributions in their respective categories.
The competition provided our young scientists a platform to explore, experiment, and expand their scientific literacy in a fun and challenging environment. Their meticulous research and creativity were proudly exhibited at Science Alive at the Adelaide Showgrounds, reflecting the girls’ commitment and the support from their families. Congratulations to all our talented students who entered and learnt more about our amazing scientific world.

Receptions meet some Radicool Reptiles!
Last week, our Reception students had a very exciting visit from Radicool Reptiles. Excitement was abundant as the girls crept in to get up close and personal with some of Australia’s magnificent reptiles in a safe and respectful way. The girls showed curiosity and courage as they asked questions and held many of the reptiles. We met bearded dragons, geckos, blue tongue lizards and snakes. Aretha the python was so gentle as she slithered across our laps! This was a wonderful opportunity to connect with our central idea that living things have needs in order to grow and survive.

Junior School Book Week
Monday 19 – Friday 23 August
Dress Up Day will be held on Friday 23 August. This year’s theme is ‘Reading is Magic.’ Junior School students are invited to come dressed as a book character or a character that fits this year’s theme. The students will parade their costumes along the pathway to the Chapel from 8.35am, and families are welcome to come and watch. The students will also be involved in an assembly following the parade, which will have capacity for students only.
We look forward to celebrating Book Week 2024!
