Our House System has long been central to School life, with the four Houses – Kennion, Kilburn, Patteson and Selwyn – being established in 1927. The Sisters’ initial vision for the House System was to continue student voice in the School. They advocated for students to take initiative, do the work and carry the responsibility for activities undertaken by the House, with staff merely advising when needed. Choral Night 2026 held true to this vision, as students led and delivered every aspect of each House’s performances.
Across 18 rehearsals, Middle and Senior School students devoted themselves to preparing for the much anticipated and hotly contested annual Choral Night. During every Home Group and lunchtime rehearsal, each House collaborated to present three performances: a unique rendition of a common hymn, a ‘Sisters of Soul’ House song, and a dance created and led by the Year 12 students. These performances showed remarkable creativity, evident in their original musical interpretations and dynamic choreography.
Choral Night remains a special event within our School community and is a highlight of the School calendar for many. While one House is named the winner, the commitment shown by every House in the weeks of preparation and the performance on the night is exceptional. For many of our girls, performing before a large audience demands significant courage. But with the encouragement of their House, they feel empowered to participate with confidence and pride.
Congratulations to all of our girls for an amazing night, and to Patteson House for their win!
