Fun, Energy, and Team Spirit Shine at Sports Morning!

Last Friday morning was bursting with energy as our youngest learners, from Reception to Year 3, took to the field for our much-loved annual Sports Morning! The day was filled with excitement as students moved through a series of fun, action-packed activities designed to build their movement skills, confidence, and love of active play.

Smiles, laughter, and cheers could be heard all around as the girls encouraged one another and celebrated every effort, big and small. The enthusiasm and sportsmanship on display were truly inspiring!

A huge thank you to all the parents who came along to support our young athletes and to everyone who helped make the morning such a joyful success. What a wonderful celebration of teamwork, fun, and school spirit!

Receptions Explore Chinese Language through the Life Cycle of the Panda

In Chinese this year, our Reception students explored a range of engaging topics, including body parts, family, colours, numbers, animals, and fruits. To bring all of this learning together, we ended the year with a fun project on the life cycle of the panda (熊猫 xióng māo). The girls completed a fill-in-the-blanks worksheet, using Pinyin to write most of the vocabulary they have learned, while confidently writing numbers in Chinese characters. Through reading simple sentences about how a panda grows from a newborn cub to an adult, the students applied their language knowledge in a meaningful context. This activity not only reinforced their understanding of key vocabulary but also built their confidence and enthusiasm for learning Chinese.

Year 5 Camp

We journeyed coach to Halls Gap to the Tandara Lutheran Campsite. This campsite is wonderfully appointed with ensuite rooms and a marvellous activity and dining hall. The most exciting part about the campsite is its location beneath towering sandstone mountains, surrounded by native wildlife. The girls were delighted to watch kangaroos grazing outside their windows!

On our second day, we left early and drove to Ballarat for an in-depth study of the Gold Rush, tightly connected to the Year 5 unit of inquiry. The girls experienced underground mine tours, walked the diggings and the Chinese camp, visited shops of the era, and saw gold being smelted. As part of the girls’ inquiry, they spent time interviewing people of the goldfields to learn about the challenges faced in this era. After visiting Sovereign Hill, the girls visited the original site of the Eureka Stockade- a moving experience for all.

Halls Gap is known for its accessibility to walking trails and we made the most of this on our third day, visiting Boroka Lookout, and hiking to The Balconies and Silverband Falls. We also visited Halls Gap Zoo where keepers guided the girls through the park, explaining animal adaptations for their study in Science.

This was a wonderful experience for the girls, combining geology, biology, history and indigenous studies. As well as this rich learning, much social learning occurred as groupwork and collaboration featured not only in their dorms but through cooperative activities.

The Junior School students have had their final times for borrowing books from the Library this week. All returns are due by the end of Week 7, Friday 28 November. Please ensure to search thoroughly as books often turn up in unexpected places, such as the car boot, grandparents’ house, sports bags, sibling’s bookshelves, etc.

We look forward to having all books back in the Junior School Library by Friday 28 November.
