News from Learning Community 1
In our Learning Community, we have been exploring the idea of the body as a vehicle for communication, inspired by the principles of the Reggio Emilia approach. The children have been discovering that our bodies can “talk” in many ways through facial expressions, gestures, posture, movement and dance.
Recently, we introduced wooden mannequins into the environment as provocations for thinking and investigation. The children have been carefully observing how the mannequins can bend, twist, stretch and balance. They experimented with manipulating the joints, noticing which parts move easily and which feel more rigid. This led to rich conversations about elbows, knees, shoulders and how our own bodies are similar yet much more flexible and alive.
The children delighted in positioning the mannequins into different poses and then attempting to copy those movements with their own bodies. Some poses were simple and familiar, while others proved challenging, sparking laughter, persistence and problem-solving. Through this playful inquiry, the children explored balance, coordination and spatial awareness. They began to recognise that controlling and “manipulating” our own bodies requires concentration, strength and cooperation between different body parts. This ongoing exploration is deepening their understanding that the body is not only something we inhabit, but a powerful tool for expression, creativity and communication.
We look forward to exploring where this inquiry leads and what our research reveals about the body and its relationship to the broader whole.

ELC Enrolment for Term 3, 2026
Dear Families,
As we begin planning enrolments for Term 3, 2026 at St Peter’s Girls’ Early Learners’ Centre, we are reaching out to confirm whether there will be any changes to your child’s attendance.
Due to the significant demand for places and our current extensive waitlist, it is important that we have up-to-date information about families’ enrolment needs.
Please contact our enrolment team if you would like to:
- Request additional days for Term 3, 2026 (subject to availability)
- Reduce or change your child’s current booked days
- Confirm that your child will be finishing at the ELC at the end of Term 2, 2026
- Advise us if your child has turned four, and if only attending 2 days, which day you prefer for their third day of attendance
Please notify our enrolment team via elcenrolments@stpetersgirls.sa.edu.au by Friday 20 March 2026.
If we do not hear from you, we will assume that your child’s current booked days will continue into Term 3.
This information is essential as we finalise enrolments and offer places for Term 3, 2026 and beyond. While we always endeavour to accommodate requests for changes, availability is limited due to the high demand for places. Any requests received after Friday 20 March 2026 will be placed on a waitlist.
We greatly appreciate your prompt response and thank you for your continued support of our ELC community.
Kind regards,
Liz Schembri
