Strength, Compassion, and Unity of the Saints Girls’ Community

During Round 8 of IGSSA Sport, Saints Girls participated in Pink Round. Pink Round unites schools across South Australia in a vibrant show of support. This heartfelt initiative raises awareness and vital funds for Breast Cancer Network Australia (BCNA), which provides essential services and support to individuals and families affected by breast cancer across the country.

In Australia, breast cancer has a significant impact on women and their families. It is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women and causes more than 3,000 deaths each year. Early detection and advances in treatment have improved survival rates, but ongoing research, support services, and public awareness remain essential in reducing the impact of breast cancer in Australia.

Embracing the pink theme, students, staff, and spectators were encouraged to wear pink accessories, including specially designed pink socks, to show solidarity and spark conversations about breast cancer awareness. As a school, we undertook several initiatives across the week that involved all students and staff from Reception to Year 12.

Our Sports Captains kicked the round off with a bake sale on a very cold, very wet recess time. There was pink icing and sprinkles all over the place and I can say from personal experience our girls are very capable bakers!

All staff and students were provided with a pink ribbon to wear on their chest throughout the week and were invited to write a message for our “I’m doing it for…” wall, where they were able to nominate someone they knew or just acknowledge women more broadly who have suffered from breast cancer.

Finally, our competition sport teams wore pink hair ribbons and socks during their fixtures. It was a lovely way to unite our teams and show our support for the cause.

This year, Saints Girls raised just over $ 1,000 to donate to cancer research through the sale of pink socks and the bake sale.

The Pink Round is more than just a dress code; it’s a powerful platform for education and fundraising. By integrating awareness into school sports, it fosters a culture of empathy and proactive health consciousness among young women. Funds raised will directly support BCNA’s mission to assist Australians affected by breast cancer.

Thank you to everyone who participated in and supported our Pink Round initiatives and for standing with us and helping demonstrate the strength, compassion, and unity of the Saints Girls’ community.
