A very warm welcome to Term 1 in Learning Community 1! Welcome to our new families who are about to embark on a new journey with us at St Peter’s Girls’ ELC, and welcome back to our families continuing with us in both the Bell Yett and Stonyfell Rooms. We begin the year in Learning Community 1 with optimism and excitement for what the year ahead has in store for our community of learners.

The summer break gives us time to consider the year ahead and the range of emotions this brings. Cinzia Innerti, an early childhood teacher from Reggio Emilia, Italy, tells us that arriving in a new place is complex – you need to refine your heart and mind. As we begin this new year, we acknowledge the emotions of our new families as they experience many ‘firsts’. The first goodbye, the first full day apart, and the first time in a brand-new space. A strong sense of community underpins every aspect of our ELC lives, and a sense of belonging felt by all in our community is at the forefront of our practice as educators as we welcome young children and their families into our community. We treasure that school is a place where people live a significant portion of their lives together.

This term, our central idea is Belonging can support wellbeing. Nurturing a strong sense of belonging is our priority for each of the children in the ELC; when you feel connected with those around you, you feel safe to be yourself and express your identity. Each day, we have very special rituals that help us find a comfortable flow to our day. These are often songs, movement or stories. Our rituals are fun, inclusive and predictable, which support children to connect to both daily ELC life and one another.

A strong sense of community nurtures wellbeing. Please have a chat with the teachers and educators within your child’s room and visit our online learning page to keep up to date with the special events we hold as a School community and other opportunities for participation.

ELC Twilight Family Picnic – Book Now!

Dear ELC Families,

You are invited to our ELC Twilight Family Picnic on Friday 21 February from 5pm to 7pm on the School’s Chapel Path and Lawns.

Families are encouraged to bring a picnic basket and rug for this family-friendly event. A sausage sizzle will be available on the night with pre-order required. Bookings for the sausage sizzle can be made via TrybookingPlease book by Monday 17 February.

We ask that families bring their own drinks, and that no glassware is used on the lawns as safety is one of our highest priorities.

The Twilight Family Picnic is an ELC community event and a wonderful opportunity to meet other families. We look forward to gathering as a community and spending this special time together.
