The girls secured another impressive team victory this week, though the final scores didn’t fully reflect the intensity of the matches. Each contest was tightly fought, with momentum swinging back and forth throughout.
What stood out was the players’ decision-making and composure under pressure. In the crucial moments, they held their nerve and executed with confidence, ultimately tipping the result in our favour. It was a testament to their growing maturity and teamwork on the court.

This match was a valuable learning experience. With the squad back to full strength, the focus shifted to rebuilding connections and refining plays. While there’s still work to do, the improvement was clear and when everything clicked, the volleyball was simply beautiful to watch.

Energy level, Raise the roof! When an injured player needed to get through the match and there were no normal subs available, the solution came from the stadium bleachers. Two younger sisters hungry, only a little nervous, but ready to step up as true Saints Girls – joined the action. The result? Pure magic. The energy of the Centicol sisters working together was electric – effort, noise, and enthusiasm that lifted the entire team. All players served strongly, and a young, developing Wilderness side had few answers. Just WOW! A great game from everyone and a memorable display of teamwork and spirit.

Rowing Season Opening Picinc
On Sunday evening we hosted the Friends of Rowing – Season Opening Picnic on the Chapel Path. It was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the start of the 2025/26 Rowing Season, welcome our new families to the program, as well as welcome back out returning families.
The evening also served as an opportunity to christen our new 1st 8+ boat. We were delighted to be joined by Old Scholar Georgina Belder (Selwyn, 2013) and her family, who did the honour of smashing the champagne. Georgina was one of the first rowing students at the School, and was the co-captain of Rowing in 2010-11, 2011-12 and 2012-13. Georgina shared some of her reflections on her time at Saints Girls as a rower and how the program has grown since her time – an incredible opportunity for our students to understand what has come before them, be grateful for the opportunities they have now, and the legacy they can leave behind for future generations of Saints Girls.
And we christened the boat… Courage II!
Every day all the School’s values – Courage, Compassion, Creativity – can be seen at Rowing. But there is no doubt that Courage is the value that resonates most strongly with the Rowing program. From the very beginning when our Year 7s try Rowing in PE, and we put them in single sculls in the School swimming pool, it takes courage to step out of their comfort zone and try something new. It takes courage to push yourself on the ergo or in the boat, to redefine what you thought you could achieve. It takes courage to have a critical conversation with a teammate. It takes courage to commit yourself wholeheartedly to achieving a goal. Every day, we see acts of courage at rowing, big and small. So it was with complete purpose that we named our first boat Courage five years ago, and that same purpose that we named our new 8+ Courage II this year.
Thank you to the Friends of Rowing for all their work leading into the event and on the day – their support is essential to the success of the evening! We forward to a wonderful season of community spirit around the Saints Girls marquee, brought together through the hard work of the Friends of Rowing.
