News from Learning Community 1

As we embark on a new term, as educators we take time to reflect on children’s knowledge and understandings and consider what it is that we want them to learn. This term, as we lead into the season of celebration, we are investigating the Central Idea:

‘Celebrations can nurture wellbeing and build community.

Our inquiry is focused on exploring how celebrations express joy, belonging, and connection within our community. This theme is already bringing a sense of warmth and excitement to our learning spaces.

Through this inquiry, we are:

  • Investigating the different ways people celebrate across cultures, families, and personal experiences.
  • Exploring how celebrations help us feel a sense of belonging and connection with others.
  • Understanding how taking part in celebrations can support our emotional wellbeing and help shape our sense of identity.

At the start of each inquiry, we offer open-ended and engaging experiences to spark curiosity. These opportunities allow us to observe the children’s thinking, discover their interests, and listen to their questions. This helps us shape and guide the learning journey in meaningful ways.

We warmly invite you to be part of this inquiry. If your family has any stories, traditions, or celebrations you’d like to share, please contribute to our display boards outside the classroom, or email your child’s teacher. Your contributions enrich our community and help children see the value of diverse experiences.

Celebrate our Learning Week

Monday 27 to Friday 31 October (Week 3) – The Piazza

In Week 3, families and treasured friends are invited to spend some time looking through their child’s Portfolio during drop-off or pick-up.

At the ELC, we celebrate and document each child’s learning journey. The portfolio is a celebration of your child’s achievement, linking to curriculum frameworks and providing meaningful assessment for educators, families and the individual child.

Work samples, photographs, transcripts of conversations and reflections provide a rich insight into learning and involvement in our inquiry investigations.

We look forward to seeing you at the ELC, enjoying this special time with your child and celebrating their progress.

Save the Date to our End of Year Celebration

To ELC Families,

Please save the date to our much-loved ELC End of Year Celebration on Friday 28 November, 5.15pm at St Peter’s Girls’ School. This community event is a favourite amongst our Centre, and a wonderful opportunity to celebrate the year with a picnic gathering, carols, food, and more. More information about this event will be announced in Term 4. We hope to see you there!
