Hear Me Roar – Oh What a Night!
Music has an incredible way of uniting people.
Our vision for ‘Hear Me Roar’ was to bring together the entire Saints Girls’ community in celebration of our incredible School and its 130 years of educating young women. This community included our current cohort, Old Scholars, current and former staff, current and former parents, past classroom music staff and instrumental tutors, as well as many prospective parents.
Libby O’Donovan and Amelia Ryan’s show ‘I am Woman’ provided the perfect vehicle for celebration, in a hilarious, nostalgic and uplifting homage to the women who blazed trails for the generations to come.
The second set celebrated the incredible musical gifts of our current students and our Old Scholars. There were absolutely stunning performances by our Old Scholar Enchante soloists, Old Scholar Enchante Choir and instrumentalists. Backed by our current orchestra and choirs, many a tear was shed, as our performers demonstrated not only their passion for music, but a level of professionalism well beyond their years.
Old Scholar, former staff member and former parent, Penny Doyle (Patteson 1966) says:
‘As an Old Scholar, past parent, and past staff member, I could not have been prouder of everyone involved. It literally brought a tear to my eye to witness the talent of our girls. The Old Scholar choristers were superb, demonstrating such talent and performing with supreme confidence. The voices of these young ladies were sublime. The whole performance was so professional and yet relaxed. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves on stage and the audience just loved it.’
Current staff member, Michael Butler Wills says:
‘A joyous, sophisticated and memorable celebration, absolutely first class. The only problem is that it should have been performed at the Festival Theatre with 2000 people in attendance…by anyone’s standards that was a show worth paying big bucks to experience!!!’
Of course, a show such as this involves an army of people behind the scenes and I would like to make a special mention of Candi Pearson and Rachel Politis who worked tirelessly on ‘Hear Me Roar’ branding, the program, flyers, and social media advertising. A huge thank you to Megan McCormack whose support has been invaluable in assisting with Old Scholar and former staff communications, the Old Scholars rehearsal and drinks, and to Fiona McGregor for her support with event management, ticketing and foyer decorations.
And an enormous thank you to our amazing Head of Music Sally Rounsevell and our dedicated and hard-working Arts team Jeanne Phillips, Scott Lorien, Robyn Habel, Kendall Latzel, Mairi Walker, and to Kate Burnett for the stunning dance videos.
