Pink Round Next Week

Pink Round will be taking place in Week 2, where the Sport Captains will be implementing several initiatives throughout the week to raise awareness and funds for breast cancer research, treatment, and support services.

Breast cancer statistics in Australia are staggering:

  • Breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer among women in Australia.
  • Over 20,000 Australian Women and Men are diagnosed with breast cancer each year, that equates to approximately 57 Australians diagnosed each day.
  • One in seven women are diagnosed with breast cancer in their lifetime.
  • Breast cancer diagnosis has increased by 21% in the last 10 years.
  • Advancements in research and treatment options have contributed to Australia having one of the best breast cancer survival rates in the world.
(Reference: National Breast Cancer Foundation & Breast Cancer Network Australia).

How can your daughter support Pink Round?

  • Purchase something from Saints Café on Tuesday and Thursday between 7.30-8.20am on the Food Tech Deck, with profits being donated to the Breast Cancer Network Australia*.
  • Purchase a homemade cupcake for $2 on Tuesday between 7.30-8.20am and Thursday recess time on the Food Tech Deck, with funds raised being donated to the Breast Cancer Network Australia*.
  • Years 3 to 6 students participating in School competition sports, can wear a pink ribbon in their hair (their coaches will have ribbons).
  • Years 3 to 6 students can fill out an “I’m doing it for” paper nametag and place it in the collection bin outside the Sports Office, where they will then be stapled to the Sports Board for the week.

The idea behind the name tag is for students to think about the people they might know who have been affected by breast cancer and write their name on the name tag, bringing awareness to the number of people that breast cancer affects in the School community. The “I’m doing it for” may be the reason they are filling out a nametag, the reason they are wearing a pink ribbon or the reason they are purchasing a cupcake. If students do not know of someone affected by breast cancer or do not feel comfortable with sharing a name, their “doing it for” might be – breast cancer research, treatment, or support services.

* Flexicard, EFTPOS and cash accepted

Saints Girls Lacrosse Stars

Congratulations to Saints Girls Dani Cox, 12KEN and Ashlyn May, 12KIL, who were presented with their Australian Blazers on Sunday at Brighton Lacrosse Club. We couldn’t be prouder and wish them all the best in the U20 Lacrosse World Championships in Hong Kong next month.

Good luck Dani and Ashlyn!
