Old Scholar Alex Nguyen Shines with Prestigious TASA Award
Last Friday evening, the creative team behind our impressive 2025 School production attended the annual Theatre Association of South Australia (TASA) Gala Ceremony. Reviewers saw more than 80 shows last year, and Newsies was one of only five productions nominated for Best Youth Musical Production. Although we did not take home the award, it was an honour to be recognised alongside such outstanding talent.
We were especially thrilled that Alex Nguyen (Selwyn 2025) was nominated for Youth Performer of the Year among the top young performers in our state. It came as no surprise to us when she was announced as the winner of this prestigious award.
After the ceremony, reviewers who attended Newsies spoke highly of Alex’s outstanding performance. They were particularly impressed by her natural leadership within the cast, her care for every ensemble member, and her ability in the role of Jack Kelly to connect with the entire company while delivering a flawless accent, strong vocals and complex choreography.
Next week, Alex moves to Sydney to begin her studies at the Conservatorium of Music, where she has accepted a place in the world-renowned Bachelor of Music Theatre program. She joins Zara Blight (Kilburn 2023) as a current student in this exceptional course.
Alex reflects that being involved in School productions has enabled her to grow and expand her performance and leadership skills, setting a strong foundation for her future success.
We are incredibly proud and no one is more deserving.
